Internet Access

Pershing County Library has four Internet stations available for patrons to use free of charge.  Staff will give training on how to use the Internet.  A prior arrangement for training is recommended.

All patrons have to sign the Library’s Internet Acceptable Use Policy.  Children under 18 years have to have their parent or legal guardian sign in front or a staff member.  Patrons have to have no outstanding fines or fees on their cards to use the Internet.

Purpose of Internet Access Policy and Guidelines

To help us fulfill our mission; Pershing County Library provides access to a wide range of informational resources including the Internet.  The library provides Internet access to our patrons free of charge.  The library does charge ten (10) cents a page for printing information.  As an information resource, the Internet enables Pershing County Library to provide information not otherwise available within the limitations of its own collection.

Pershing County Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet.  The Internet allows access to ideas, information and commentary from around the globe.  Not all Internet sources provide information that is current, accurate or complete.

The Intent is an unregulated medium which offers access to a wealth of materials that is personally, professionally and culturally enriching to individuals of all ages.  It also enables access to some materials that may be offensive, disturbing and/or illegal.

Restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or guardian; the library staff does not have the right or responsibility to act in place of parent or guardian.

The principle of free access to information in libraries is an important part of our mission.  The library will not restrict adult (18 yr.) users from viewing any materials publicly and lawfully available on the Internet.  Patrons should be aware of Nevada Revised Statues 200.730 which prohibits access or printing “visual presentation depicting a person under the age of 16 years as the subject of a sexual portrayal or engaging or simulation, or assisting others to engage in or simulate sexual conduct.”

Pershing County Library provides a link to the Internet, but we are not able to monitor or control information accessible through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content.  Library patrons use it at their own risks.  As with other media, each user is responsible for evaluating the quality, relevance and appropriateness of materials found on the Internet.

Internet Use by Patrons Who Are Under 18 Years

It is the library’s policy that the parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for deciding what library resources are appropriate for their children.  Parent’s permission will be required for any Internet usage by minors.  Parents will be encouraged to guide their children in their activity and may specify that a child uses the Internet only in their presence.

Please contact the library for further information on Internet use and general policies and guidelines.

How can you help your library?

The Library welcomes donation of books, paperbacks, magazines, CDs, audiocassettes and videos in good condition.  All donations are considered for addition to our collection

According to our collection policy, materials not used by the library are given to the Friends of the Library for their Book Sale Corner in the Library.

Monetary donations to the Library can be made through the Pershing County Library Memorial Gift Fund or Friends of the Library.  Please contact Jeanne Munk, Library Director for further information.
