Internet Access
Pershing County Library has four Internet stations available for patrons to use free of charge. Printing is available at 10 cents/page.
Staff will give training on using the Internet. A prior arrangement for training is recommended.
Children's Use Of The Internet
The library currently uses an automated reservation system for the public internet computers. Library staff does not monitor who uses the internet. If a parent, guardian, or caregiver does not wish his/her child to use the internet, it is up to them to enforce their decision.
Parents, guardians, and caregivers are responsible for their children's use of library materials including use of the Internet. Library staff cannot control the databases that children may select on the Internet. Parents and children are encouraged to read Child Safety on the Information Highway, produced jointly by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Interactive Services Association.
The Internet contains information on all subjects and from many viewpoints; however, not all sources provide information that is accurate, complete, or current and some may be offensive. The Library cannot control the information available over the Internet, and is not responsible for its content.
As with all materials in the Library, any restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the sole responsibility of the parent, guardian, or caregiver. Parents are encouraged to work with their children to develop rules for use of the Internet.
Pointers For Parents
- Visit the Library often with your child.
- Spend time online visiting Internet sites with your child.
- Keep yourself informed of current trends related to the Internet.
All users of Library computers and the Internet are expected to do so in a responsible manner, consistent with the education and informational purposes for which they are provided and to follow these policies to insure the operation runs smoothly.
